About Xavier Dolan
With a poetic vision and aesthetics, Xavier Dolan has since his acclaimed feature film debut ”I Killed My Mother” continued to explore the complexity of family relationships and the existential side of living. Often dealing with characters refusing to conform to the norms of society, Dolan's individual style cuts deep with raw emotion and compelling narratives - which has naturally earned him a prominent position in the contemporary film scene in the last decade.
In 2010 the Stockholm International Film Festival screened Dolan's highly praised second feature film, ”Heartbeats” which won several international prices and nominations. Dolan was back again at the Stockholm Film Festival in 2014 with ”Mommy” which won the prestigious Audience Award and had previously picked up the Jury Price at the Cannes Film Festival 2014. He has since the success of ”Mommy” made two more feature films, ”It's Only the End of the World” which received the 2016 Grand Jury Prize at the Cannes Film Festival and ”The Death and Life of John F. Donovan”. This year at the festival, Dolan will be presenting his new film ”Matthias & Maxime ”, starring Gabriel D´Almedia Freitas and Xavier Dolan himself.
